WHAT THEY SOUND LIKE

WHY YOU SHOULDN’T MISS IT
Taking their name from the esteemed Big Bang theorist, Norwegian electro-pop duo Lemaitre make highly infectious, club-ready tunes that would be equally as appropriate to soundtrack a sunset drive down PCH. Texturally-dense production achieved by self-sampling and live instrumentation puts Lemaitre at a level of ambition more akin to Phoenix and Daft Punk than any old EDM artist they may share a festival bill with.

Rest In Peace stunning and legendary Jazz vocalist Jimmy Scott.  We had the pleasure of hosting Jimmy on a few extremely memorable occasions.
Rolling Stone and The Guardian have both written excellent pieces on the late Scott.  He will be missed.
Enjoy some footage taken of Jimmy at Echoplex in 2007 below, previewed by KCRW.

Memorial Weekend Round Up

Ah, once again another fantastic three day weekend (maybe four if you play your cards right) is on the horizon and its time to get the ball rolling on your ~fun time~ planning.

Jumpstart your weekend with some classically soulful rock with the wonderful Howlin’ Rain over at the Echo on 5/23. With a dose of Springsteen, a dash of Rod Steward and the spectral essence of Freddy Mercury, how can you say no? Meanwhile, the dynamic duo Superhumanoids + Cardiknox co-headline the Echoplex with eclectic electronic beats that shall surely send you spinin’ fo FREE.

We’re diggin’ the DIY-ness of Team Supreme’s 2-year Anniversary over at the Echoplex where the entire TS crew will be laying beats for the first time ever.  Plus our weekly installment of Funky Sole holds it down up stairs, which is FREE before 10:30pm at the Echo. Two shows and you didn’t even have to lose your parking spot? You are welcome.

Do your part to ensure that there is a light that will never go out at Part Time Punks Smiths/ Morrissey Nite at The Echoplex this Sunday. But if dance floor crusades aren’t your cup of tea, we have flipping LIVE KARAOKE at the Echo w/  K-Luv Live Karaoke Band.  Sing your little heart out you lovely human you.

And on your day off, enjoy our last Monday Night Residency with co-headliners In The Valley Below and Mercy Beat continues with support from Omniflux and Will Love. Quite a divine way to end your weekend so don’t miss out!

Reblog for a chance at a pair of tickets to the TEAM SUPREME 2-Year-Anni.

How Liam Finn has not managed to become a household name is a fascinating mystery to us. Maybe America is just behind in the times, since this New Zealand based artist’s delightfully witty lyrics combined with a certain melodic je ne nais sais quoi is sure to become the soundtrack for the rest of your day.

Finn teams up with fellow kiwi, Conan Mockasin and Kirin J Callinan Friday May 16th at the Echoplex.

Sidenote, Mr Finn recorded a live record at our old club Spaceland in 2007, a burner of a show you can listen to here!

And some new Finn while we’re at it.

Weekly Update - 5.9.14

Oooooh are we ready for a party. New Orleans bounce queen BIG FREEDIA is bringing it EXTRA SPECIAL this tonight. Come down to Echoplex early at 6.30 tonight for a crazy street party. Trust us — you won’t want to miss this and a Freedia show afterwards means a party of epic proportions!!

This Sunday Part Time Punks is celebrating 9 years of parties! Come enjoy a rad lineup that will leave you tickled PINK. ;)

We’re mixing it up next Thursday with this great literary evening at Echoplex! Chuck Palahniuk is bringing his Bedtime Stories for Adults show to L.A. with friends NY Times bestseller Chelsea Cain and musician/novelist Willy Vlautin of the band Richmond Fontaine. Wear your pajamas and cuddle up for a night of outrageous literary theater & music that will reinvent your idea of a “reading.” Tickets include a signed copy of Willy Vlautin’s new novel, The Free, a bloody severed arm, and much, much more!

They aren’t kidding about the arms…

We’ve got a ton more just announced below so jump on those quick and have the best weekend — hopefully one with azz everywhere!

"Call us (470) BABES-77."

Its not everyday you find a band with a fan hotline, but the Los Angeles based artist Babes certainly doesn’t shy away from the quirky, lovable and (what they call) “underestimated freakiness” that constitute their five-piece. With a dose of dream wave beats, a dash of spectral vocals and a whole lot of infectious pop, Babes has quickly captured our attention.

And lucky for you, they’re opening for Say Hi & Big Scary this Thursday 5/15 at the Echo!
