All Ages Fun (for Everyone) - September Edish

All too often we are strapped by the shackles of various regulatory bodies and cannot offer our shows to patrons of all ages to enter and revel in.

We do win the battle at times, and wanted to take a moment to highlight the upcoming ALL AGES events we have a hand in this month.

2. BRONCHO w/ Mozes and The Firstborn + Mystic Braves - SATUDAY @ The Echo

3. Grand Ole Echo - Every Sunday at The Echo

4. Church Sessions w/ Julia Holter - September 11th @ First Unitarian Church

5. Twilight Concert Series w/ Jimmy Cliff - September 12th @ Santa Monica Pier

6. The Julie Ruin w/ La Sera - September 19th @ Echoplex

7. Cold Cave w/ Douglas McCarthy - September 20th @ Echoplex

8. The Beach Ball Fest Soul Revue + Reggae Festival - September 21st + 22nd @ Santa Monica Pier

SEE YOU THERE YOUNGINS!

Best New Music from The Echo - Julia Holter

If you’ve been checking out the music blogosphere the last few days, the name Julia Holter is everywhere. The singer released her latest studio album Loud City Song on August 19, 2013 to the acclaim of blogs like NPR and Pitchfork. Pitchfork went so far as to deem Holter’s released as one of their coveted “Best New Music” selections.

LA-native Holter’s brand of avant-pop meshes her sweet and enigmatic voice with a cinematic quality that is somewhat understated in instrumentation. Her songs play out like a piece from a French New Wave film, which is not ironic considering that Holter was inspired by the 1958 musical Gigi.

Julia Holter’s track “In The Green Wild” is KCRW’s Top Tune for August 20. Download the track here.

Don’t miss Julia Holter on Wednesday, September 11 at First Unitarian Church.

#EchoTakesLA Scavenger Hunt and Poster Search

To celebrate our maniacal day of shows all across the city on Thursday July 25th, we’ve organized a bit of a scavenger for all of you fanatics and we’ve got heaps of tickets to give away as part of it! The Hunt officially begins on 3pm on Thursday!

How to Participate:

We have hidden special show posters with clues on them at The Echo, First Unitarian Church, and Santa Monica Pier.  Each poster will give you a pertinent clue to find the ultimate hidden show poster somewhere in LA!

When you find a clue, take a picture of it and tag us on Twitter (@TheEchoLA) in a post that includes who is performing at the venue that evening and including the hashtag #EchoTakesLA.

There will be only one grand prize winner (finder’s keepers!) but we have prizes for those of you who find 2 or more clues as well.

In order to win the grand prize, you’ll need to have pictures of all 3 clues and the ultimate hidden poster!

Prizes

Grand Prize = Echo Ticket package.

  •  Pair of tickets to any show in August at The Echo and Echoplex.
  •  Pair of tickets to one upcoming show at First Unitarian Church (Julia Holter / Olafur Arnalds / Youth Lagoon)
  •  Pair of tickets to Beach Ball festival or Way Over Yonder festival at the Santa Monica Pier.

The Low-Down on The Uncluded

Who are they?

The Uncluded were first brought together by a fan letter that Aesop Rock had sent Kimya Dawson way back in 2007. Later — after featuring on each other’s respective records — a more permanent collaboration was created.

What about that name?

"The Uncluded" comes from a book called ImaginationallyMichael Bernard Loggins, the author, defines Unclude as, “Keeping things you don’t appreciate out of your life.”

GRIMY GOODS: Hot New Band Alert Bosnian Rainbows - LA Show on June 25th Feature

Excited for this one!  Grab tickets here: http://ticketf.ly/10j6iOn

Do you like it when hot chicks and super-fun, talented musicians make albums about your inner-most personal thoughts (even the ones you’ve never really admitted to having, not even to your therapist, for fear that they would report you to a higher authority)? Bosnian Rainbows’ debut album (of the same name) will make you wish you were in a field, surrounded by some spiritual sticks and stones set-up, staring at open sky, holding a pretty girl’s hand and thinking about — nothing at all, really. Bosnian Rainbows features Nicci Kasper, Deantoni Parks and Omar Rodriguez (yes, of The Mars Volta – those dudes) and the kill-you-with-the-beauty-of-my-screams front woman Teri Gender Bender (the lady leader of Guadalajara punks, Le Butcherettes). Are you drooling? If I were you I would probably be drooling right now.
